Rational and objective decisions

Being indifferent to your emotions allows you to be able to take a step back and consider all available information before making a decision.  But making decisions based off emotion or bias makes room for hasty choices with dire consequences.

Healthy contemptment

Healthy contemptment Most people require happiness from external factors such as more money, power, etc. These lead them into a never-ending pit because their desires become stronger and they stray further away from happiness. Having healthy contemptment means that your indifference allows you to reduce your desires and be fulfilled with the inner peace that you have.

Better Performance

Often times, we attach ourselves to the outcome of things we do, eg: participating in a competition, starting a new goal, etc. What we do not realise is that is ruins our performance on these taks because our mind is purely clouded by the outcome. We do not give ourselves time to think about the task at hand.  Focus on the process of acting and the effort you put in(thinking in the present because the present moment's actions are in your control) instead of attaching yourself to the end result(the future result because the way the future turns out is not in your control).

Emotional Resilience.

How we feel about our circumstances will dictate our attitude towards them. And our attitudes can either make or break us.  Indifference allows us to become emotionally resilient to situations that are outside of our control.  This is because we see them as part of the full package of life and not some personalised attack on us.  We are also able to let go easier.

Freedom and Authenticity:

Most people care about the opinion of others, thus they do or believe in things that society at large puts weight to. This causes people to be shakled to the chains of conformity; producing inauthentic individuals who make most of their decisions based on what is socially accepted. Note that there is a danger of taking it too far. Do not isolate yourself. Rather, live in society but act in accordance with your beliefs.  You will begin to take a path that those around you will feel like is weird, but this path is authentic to you. Be free to express who you are through chasing your specific goals and interests.

What is Indifference?

What is indifference? A mini introduction will do, just for us to engage ourselves into this discussion and will maybe help to expose the hidden self which can be solved or suppressed.  Indifference, also known as apathy is a state in which we don’t care or don’t take action on something happening around us. People who are indifferent can be seen as cold, disinterested, demotivated, and lacking in passion. Indifference may occur when the problems of our life, our families, our communities, our country, and our world may seem so overwhelming that we feel quite powerless to do anything about them. This means that even when we notice what is going on around us, we may feel unable to make a difference. Instead of trying we opt to just let things be and move on with our lives.
